What have we been learning?

Our Year 2 Garden

We love spending time looking after our garden. This term, we have cut down our daffodils and picked out a few! We also found lots of mini beasts enjoying our garden!

The Coronation of King Charles

The children in Year 2, have enjoyed celebrating the coronation of the new King. We have created bunting which is being displayed in our garden, played lots of games, taken part in our big school lunch and imagined what we would do if we were King for a day!

Zoo trip

Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Whipsnade Zoo. We took part in an African Animal workshop, which has supported our learning in both Geography and English! We loved learning new facts about the animals, and getting a chance to see them up close.

Science

In the Spring term, Year 2 have been learning about plants. We planted seeds and have been looking after our class garden.

Remembering our Queen

To pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth we created a memory booklet. This was then taken to Green Park and laid down in the tribute garden. A couple of days later our book was spotted in some photos!

History

In Year 2, we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. In 1666 people passed a leather bucket down a ‘human chain’ from the River Thames to the fire. We had a go at creating our own human chain, we found it very tricky!

Science

In Science this term, we are learning about materials! To test materials we created a home for our Quiet Critters, we needed to find which material would be the best for curtains! We looked at a range of materials and to see whether they are ‘opaque’ or ‘transparent’.  We discovered that the black card was the best material for our Quiet Critter’s curtains.

Maths

In maths this term we are looking at place value. In this lesson we were estimating numbers using a numberline!

English

In English we have written letters to the Lionesses to congratulate them on their win over the summer! We sent our letters off in a special envelope – we really hope we get a reply!
